Overview
This was a small project initiated by the editorial story board. It was meant to highlight the research a group of SMU students were doing in the area of drone research. The students were interviewed about their research and how it compares to other universities across the country.
From there, I created a style tile to help frame the design aesthetic the team imagined. After stakeholders approved the wireframes, the fonts, colors, images and gifs were inserted to create an engaging editorial article.
The page was well-received by the campus STEM community and drew healthy engagement upon launch.
The challenge
Creating a webpage that would promote the drone research students were conducting, and increase engagement to the editorial stories page.
Research & Discovery
We conducted research including:
- User interviews: 3 student interviews to understand drone research.
- Design workshops: Collaborative sessions with stakeholders to nail down design aesthetic and story presentation.
The Solution
A bold web page to display and animate the relatively complex drone research, making it accessible to those unfamiliar with such research.
Results & impact
The page launched to exceed expectations across all key metrics:
Key learnings
This project helped increase engagement and traffic to the editorial stories page, proving to stakeholders that editorial articles have impact, resonate with the campus community, and act as an important vehicle to promote university research and activity.
